In Memoriam Tina Turner
Her voice. Her hair. Her infectious smile. She will be missed.
A black diamond in the rough who through pure grit and determination became the glittering gemstone we all were gifted. Her husky, hoarse voice epitomized the pain and abuse she suffered, yet she rose above it all to enjoy fame and admiration she could not imagine. This silly white boy wanted to be near her, dance like her, sing like her. She is too unique to be shadowed by any other but I have her CDs to remember. Thank you Tina, thank you Rick.
I had not heard. Came on your site this a.m. and immediately shouted OH NO and began to cry. She had a hard life to begin but lived through it all, owned it and became the icon that she always was. She was a part of my youth and yet a peer by age. In the end she had the peace and respect that she so deserved. And, at the age of 83 she was taken away at too young. She will be and is missed. Rest in peace.
What a fantastic talent and wonderful person. I remember in tech school in the Air Force when she was on Midnight Special or something similar . A day room full of young men watching her strut the stage. There wasn’t a dry pair of underwear in the room.

I couldn't believe when I heard the news. I always enjoyed her and her voice and such a huge sea of the same type of artist, but she stood out. And I find it hard to believe not one news source even commented about her doing a James Bond theme song. GoldenEye was one of my favorite songs she's ever done and one of her least played.
TT had a magic which was both personal and professional, but her charm, humour and humanity shone brighter than anything. Saw Tina in concert over here in the UK twice, truly amazing. I have a cuddly Tina Tiger which now more than ever I’ll treasure in memory of this lovely lady! Bob
Y'know, We watched her on a PBS concert special a month or so ago, and she burned up the stage. What struck me the most about her was that no matter what she did or sang or danced...somehow she never lost her dignity. Even in Tommy and Beyond Thunderdome, she always seemed confident. Centered. And dignified. And irreplaceable. Thanks for posting this tribute, Rick.
I grew up about 45 minutes from Brownsville, Tennessee (where Miss Turner was born), and just under an hour from Nutbush (where her grandmother raised her). I have heard tales about her as far back as I can remember. I always admired her strength, her resilience, and her determination to succeed. I will miss her style, her grace, and her beautiful voice. Rest well, Miss Turner—you have earned it.
I've seen her performing live several times here in Belgium! It was always very amazing and extremely entertaining! What a voice! What a show! Very good memories. Still love her and her music! She was the best! I will always miss her.

Legendary. I'm glad that she finally was able to live life on her terms. There will never be another like Tina Turner.

ReplyDeleteI was also shocked to hear the news about the passing of Tina Turner. So much talent, energy and beauty.
Seems like she would just keep going and going. "What's love got to do with it" was one of my favorites by her.
#7) Just beautiful indeed, and those legs, WoW!!
Mistress Maddie, I'm going to listen to her James Bond song tonight.
Thanks Rick, a very nice tribute.
