Lex Croucher's comment is a necessary one, and there's a lot more to be said along those lines. So long as environmentalism is identified with world leaders using carbon-belching special planes to fly thousands of miles to international conferences where they sit around lecturing ordinary people about what kind of light bulbs and straws they should be using, the credibility of the entire concept will be undermined.
People are not going to accept a serious reduction in the material standard of living, period. That's the kind of thing that causes revolutions. Climate change will be solved by the conversion of mass power generation to renewable energy -- a process in which quite a few other countries are far ahead of the US -- not by nagging people about watching Netflix. The contribution of the latter is not just zero -- it's actually negative since it makes the whole climate change issue look ridiculous to normal people.
Water should be a heavy concern of climate change. There rae times I feel guilty about my pool - but statistics here have proven my pool uses less water than lawn - which i don't have. I'm skeptical of the Netflix claim. That could be mitigated by changing power production plants from fossil fuels to wind and solar. Our roof is covered in solar panels.
Infidel - Right! Couldn't they have done all of that over a secure Zoom or something?
Pat - I wasn't sure about the Netflix claim, but it's representative of CEOs and Big-Wigs to try to put the onus on the masses.
