ReplyDeleteThe last picture is Abu Simbel. I saw it in 1979 and still remember how impressive it was. You can see the scale from the human figure just visible in the doorway at lower center. Those statues are huge. It's in the far south of Egypt, a long way from most of the places tourists go, but well worth the trip if you're ever in Egypt.
ReplyDeleteThe whole thing had to be relocated in 1968 to avoid being submerged when the Aswan dam was built. They moved it to higher ground, where it stands now -- quite an engineering feat in itself.
It's a month-long celebration of 100 years since the discovery of Tut's tomb. Those are some great photos!
