The Islamists, like those Christian fundamentalists who spread their anti-modernity messages using TV and the internet, are trying to restore the Dark Ages using technology that only became possible because the mentality of the Dark Ages was defeated by the Enlightenment.
If they renounced any technology that was made possible by the Enlightenment, they would at least be consistent, but then (like the Amish) they wouldn't be able to menace the rest of the world. And that would hardly be satisfying. So they have to apply that good old religious hypocrisy.

I don't see any flat screens among those burning TVs. And, with any luck, that bunch of onlookers will get flattened by the toxic fumes.
