Jerry and I watched the three-part documentary, "The U.S. and the Holocaust", which is currently airing on PBS. All throughout I was thinking of how alarmingly similar things are happening here. I was glad to see that at the end of the last episode they showed how the orange turd and his cult are attempting to follow in the footsteps of the Nazis.
I realize that Democrats are not perfect, and neither are they faultless. But they are not the ones attempting to overthrow our Democracy; they are not the ones banning books; and they are not the ones taking away our rights.
PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! If you are thinking of skipping voting in any election, keep in mind that that gives more power to those who wish to establish a straight, white, theocratic, authoritarian government.
Great case made, my dear. VOTE!

Pat - If the repugs end up controlling Congress, it's the beginning of the end for the U.S.A.
ReplyDeleteRick, I too share your cynicism. The entire process reminds me of Plato's "The Cave" where he has those who watch reflections on the wall and believe that is real while others turn to the light and find truth. Sad to see the process happening again but few turning to the light.

I live in Mexico for the past 20 years and had your fabulous young man portrait as my screen saver and we lost electricity (common) and meanwhile I lost him. He looks like my gardener (another hottie)!

I understand your hope and your fear but ask yourself:
How many times have we gone through this in our lifetimes?.. I'm 72.. and the CONSTANT republican/fascist battle NEVER STOPS. they're cunning and they're evil, and their followers are ignorant and evil, and we're evidently naive enough to think we can "vote it away"....
I just remembered a new doctor I visited 50 years ago who said "Your record will never say anywhere that you're gay" and my answer was 'well it doesn't make any difference to me' and he answered "YOU NEVER KNOW'... smart man.

The World Socialist Web Site that I read only once in a while says that the Dems and the Repugs are the same, that it doesn't matter which party is in power because the capitalist oligarchs control both of them.
Admittedly, I am naively hoping that enough of us frustrated and jaded voters can vote it away. It's our last chance to save our country from authoritarianism.
