Inveraray Castle, Scotland

I'm not sure why this image has so many plantings.
Unless it's been Photoshopped in.

It was pointed out to me that perspective and
vantage point were in play. Thank you.

  1. Magnificent!

As to why the third picture has more plants in front of the castle, perhaps it was taken at a different time than the others? The landscaping might have been changed at some point.

  2. Rick, man, they really built some of those castles to last, didn't they? I found many pictures that show the approach to the front door is very long and contains the plantings that appear photoshopped. If you could zoom out from the top photo you could see extensive landscaping. Beautiful.

  3. Picture 3 is just foreshortened with a fairly wide angle lens and shows a fuller view of the garden. In picture 1 you can just seen the top of Shrub/tree at the left of the path and the first set of white seats nearer to the castle. Casey.UK

  4. Milleson & Casey - Thank you both! I hadn't even thought of perspective. You inspired me to go back to image search and I found another one showing a slightly different view. I added it to the post.

  5. LOL! I have such bad memories of that place. In 1969 our school organized a class trip to Loch Lomond to visit the castle. Imagine thirty 9 year olds in an old bus driving the 2 hours from Glasgow in pissing rain only to be told when we arrived that the castle was closed to visitors that day!! We waited outside for a half hour while our teachers begged and pleaded for them to let us inside. They eventually relented and allowed us in to see ONLY the great hall. 15 minutes later we were ejected back out into the rain and back on the bus for another soggy 2 hour drive back to Glasgow. Fun day!

  7. Inverary Castle, home of the Dukes of Argyll. Duchess Margaret (d 1993) was American. Later known as the dirty duchess, well worth googling.
