That scared child hiding under their desk brings back memories of the "duck and cover" drills we did in the 1960s. As if knealing down with our hands clasped over the base of our necks was really going to protect us from hundreds of pounds of building falling on us, in the case of a nucuear bomb attack nearby. Similarly, that thin Formica desktop and thin metal tubing/legs will do little to stop any bullet. BUT those things tend to make us feel "protected" and "doing something". Something solid to hand on to for security in a time of anxiety. I guess something is better than nothing?
ReplyDeleteBy observation, FEW schools have really implememted solid enhancements to better protect their students. Even the private schools!
UNTIL we fix the social system we have where kids feel the need to "feel powerful" against bullies and other things which cause them angst or anxiety, "A need" which will ultimately include some sort of gun violence "to get even", then these shootings will continue. And THAT tends to get back to the parents themselves! Teaching their kids what is really important and how to deal with adversity by focusing on other more relevant things. Killing somebody else "to get even" never really does fix anything, just cause many other things to happen . . . for the rest of the shooter's life.
Anon@6:29am - Yes, we need mental health care AND gun control. Absolutely NO ONE needs an AR-15. No one!
ReplyDeleteAlso. If reported as an abortion, they will be quicker to intervene and the state legislature will actually take notice and talk candidly about it. Sick world, Rick. Vote 'em all OUT!

ReplyDeleteOh, I could only imagine the pain of a parent losing a child. That picture is worth a thousand words. Sad very sad.
Anon@12:33pm - Les enfants ne devraient pas avoir à subir cela.
ReplyDeleteScott - Indeed.
I get so fucking mad at these fucking ammosexuals that I simply become incoherent. Fuck them sidewise, deep, and often...with the barrel of an AR-15.
ReplyDeleteBig Dude - I like that idea.
