I think we can all agree that war is never a good thing and the final outcome will not be pretty. For me, the most puzzling aspect of this atrocity is how war is conducted in the 21st century. A country decides to invade another to reclaim territory that wasn't theirs in the first place. They make their intentions known months in advance that they plan to invade. Peace-loving nations begin to formulate a plan of action to aid the country being invaded. The invasion finally begins. At three months into the conflict, the invader, heavily armed, has claimed the land acre by acre. The invaded people fight with all their might, there are casualties on both sides. The allied countries try to cripple the invader with sanctions and seized property which in the end does little to stop the onslaught. The casualties pile up. Cities continue to be bombarded, the people flee for their lives. Bit by bit, the land is gobbled up, the war continues. It seems inevitable that Russia and its tyrannical leader will accomplish their goal, no matter how long it takes and how many civilians lose their lives. And what is the allied nations answer? Supply more and more weapons to prolong this catastrophe. It isn't hard to imagine that we will be witnessing this carnage next year at this time. We'll read bits of news about Ukraine and go on with our lives. More than likely hundreds of thousands of people will be slaughtered and displaced. We've seen this all before. We become numb and cease to feel or sense the cruelty. So much for the modern day civility of war. But then, can we even call ourselves civilized nations in our time? I think not. With all this playing out on the world stage, and with our own country choosing to allow the ongoing slaughter of our own children and adults, the end to civilization seems certain. Here's hoping that if there are other lifeforms out there in the universe, they are paying attention to what happened on this little speck of dust we call Earth, and choose not to repeat the mistakes we've made.
Milleson - "Rules of War" has always been an oxymoron to me. Allied countries are too nervous to provoke the asshole that started this war. He might, after all, push the button. The world's good guys have become just as impotent as the ones here in the U.S. Aliens have probably already figured out they need to steer clear of us.
I don't understand war at all. It seems like this war here has been dropped, and nobody is doing anything about it. But everyday innocent children, woman, and men are being killed. So fucking senseless. I'm not an expert on world affairs so I will stop now.
All amazing. I think we've reached that point in the US where we are willing to live with a war that does not directly effect us. F that attitude. Putin is satan. He is hitler. He needs to be destroyed.
