2022.0525.0009...
Last night Jerry and I watched the movie "Swan Song" and this was one of the tunes in the soundtrack...
These were the songs of my youth. Miss Bassey was the gay icon of that era. I first heard that song by Charles Aznavour, both versions are equally emotional for me. Listen to "What makes a man a man" by Aznavour for a similar reaction. Ross
Rick….I was lucky to discover Swan Song last summer as it played at our local art house cinema. I went to see it five times. I absolutely fell in love with the beautiful movie. One of the songs early in the movie is Here’s To Life, sung by Shirley Horn, a wonderful songstress from DC, no longer with us. The entire soundtrack of Swan Song is incredible; every track is perfection. I wish that the distributor Magnolia would’ve issued a soundtrack album, and had supported the film more. The dvd has no extra features and could’ve had many…on the actual life of the main character for one, and the director’s early life in Sandusky, growing up with Jim Obergefell, who is one of the extras in the nightclub. Swan Song is a beautiful work of art that should be more well known. I’m glad you and Jerry watched it and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do.
A PS to my previous comment. I see that Spotify has compiled an unofficial soundtrack to the movie. Bravo..! Also, check out Daniel Cartier’s Hovering on YouTube. His gorgeous song plays over the ending credits. Listening to it immediately takes me back to the movie.
Va va voom!
