What?The?Fuck?
Today I learned from Pat at BigWhackAttack, who learned from Xerxes at MenForXersex, that Blogger has been putting lots - and I do mean LOTS - of legitimate comments into the Spam Folder. I've just spent the last two hours scouring that folder and publishing the trusted ones - all the way back to September of 2020!! (Unfortunately, at one point, I think I published several spams. But they were very old so, to me, it doesn't matter at this time.)
I will have to check more closely in the future.
Again, I say...
What?The?Fuck?
I don't know what is going on. I have had a few go to spam and I then approve them, but not to many like yourself. But what I find is the same comment from a person in spam and the one they publish. It like when someone comments, it make a duplicate comment and it goes to spam.
ReplyDeleteSearch me.
Mistress - I ran across a duplicate but just the one. It took me a long time to straighten it out.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that our blogfamily does work!!!
ReplyDeleteDo you use the feature Blogger has where it sends you an e-mail every time you get a comment? That way you get notification of every one, whether the system flags it as spam or not, and when you go in to approve them, you know what should be there, so you don't miss any. I use it. I do get some legitimate comments flagged as spam, but I still find and approve them because I know from the e-mails that they're supposed to be there.
ReplyDeleteYep, that's what I figured out too the other day.
ReplyDeleteIt sometimes feels like Blogger's dev-team is partly made of newbies an run by a lazy admin.
Giving the option to set a comment as spam is on good thing, but it logically calls for it's pendant: setting some others as 'trustees' at will, which lacks in blogger's option.
But they won't care, because they can always argue that it's a free product.
I have been considering moving to Wordpress. Will have as Mark @VoenixRising for his advice on the matter.
Pretty aggravating, isn't it? I have now taken to checking the spam folder every morning.
ReplyDeleteToday, the comment widget on some blogs (like Gabriel's) keep failing to publish for some reason. I swear these IT guys screw things up every time they decide to "improve" them.
Infidel - I found that notification you mentioned and set it up to email the comments to me. I also spent some time deleting all the spam so that folder is now empty. I'll get into the habit of checking the spam folder each day, as well.
ReplyDeleteLaurent - I agree that somewhere in the back room is someone trying to justify their existence by making "improvements". However, leaving a comment on Mark 's Wordpress blog is a bit of a clumsy affair, at least to me.
Pat - I'll be checking that spam folder each day as well.
Rad - There were a couple of those right-wing comments in the spam folder, but most were ads for penis enhancers and viagra and such.
ReplyDeleteby now I have gotten used to looking through the spam folder every day
ReplyDeleteXersex - That will be my new habit.
