Oh, dear! I misinterpreted what the last meme was saying. The Gilded Age of Architecture is another example ofgrotesque wealth self-aggrandizing themselves.
Exactly, Rick. That same thought came into my head right away, too. The oversized estates and the big, expensive cars.... It was an age of over self-indulgence.
ReplyDeleteRick, please revisit the Middle Age Riot meme. He is asking if you remember when billionaires used their fortunes to better mankind, to which you and I would reply, "No, I can't remember when billionaires used their fortunes to better mankind." That's why he added the "Me neither" at the end.
ReplyDeleteI think that was the point of the meme. The rich have never provided anything for the betterment of mankind but only self-aggrandizement.
ReplyDeleteMilleson & Anon@8:42am - OMG! You are absolutely right! Sheesh. I must delete my comment about it.
ReplyDeletePat - Oops on me.
That third one is spot on. And nice connect with the houses no one should ever own or build unless they're orphanages.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't wealth itself that we protest, is it? It's how it's gained and the moral corruption that it causes in the individual. Think of the Gilded Age and how the wealth and how it was gained. History is full of examples of those who were corrupted by wealth and harmed others. The phrase, "The love of money is the root of all evil" still applies today, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteUnknown@8:57pm - Sadly, it does.
ReplyDelete"The love of money is the root of all evil"
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the love of power! Expecially in these days!
