This is absolutely outrageous...
McConnell played slightly coy when discussing the possibility of a Supreme Court confirmation in 2023, telling Hewitt: “Well, we’d have to wait and see what happens.” But anyone who seriously believes a Republican-controlled Senate would confirm a Biden nominee that year—or even hold hearings on one—is deluding themselves. McConnell’s approach to judicial confirmations reflects two core principles of the modern GOP: first, that only the federal judiciary can impose key items in the Republican Party platform that are too unpopular to pass through the democratic process; and second, that only conservative judges faithfully apply the Constitution, whereas liberals make it up as they go along.
These principles might appear to contradict each other. But Republicans have harmonized them by convincing themselves that their platform perfectly reflects the Constitution. Thus, in the eyes of the GOP, when liberal judges issue decisions that align with Democrats’ priorities, they are judicial activists who are betraying their duty to apply the law as written. When conservative judges issue decisions that align with Republicans’ priorities, by contrast, they are independent jurists who are honoring the Framers’ design.
This design, according to Republicans, includes a number of policy items that the GOP has struggled to implement through legislation due to lack of popular support. Consider gun laws. Most Republican politicians oppose bans on assault weapons and support the right to carry a concealed firearm in public. But Republicans have failed to repeal the assault weapon bans currently on the books in seven states and the District of Columbia. They have also failed to repeal the strict limits on concealed carry that remain in nine states.
Rad - No need to apologize! I'm thoroughly disgusted with all of this myself. We're headed toward a fascist totalitarian government and no one is trying to stop them. Isn't there anyone in Washington with balls?
ReplyDeleteI will never advocate violence in any form, but it seems to me that if these assault rifle killings are going to continue, a few could be directed toward these evil openly obstructionist assholes who call themselves representatives of the people. I'm throwing up a little in my mouth now. VOTE THEM OUT!!!
ReplyDeleteMilleson - I with you, right down to the urp in my mouth.
ReplyDeleteBiden said it that the rest of the democratic world is watching ALL what is going on in USA as your democratic republic is strugling to get out of more than 4 years of «the Ducce» autocrat tRump and all is minions followers.
ReplyDeleteThe latest news about his interference with the help of Bill Barr on DOJ demands over Apple and Microsoft to investigate on some journalists and member of the house, Democrats for sure.
Trump always said he was a fan of Putine, never hid it too.
He showed now how close he was to Putine way of ruling with NO respect of USA's Constitution and saying he won the election when the FACTS said he lost is showing too how much he tried to maintain him in office.
Now «Bitch McCon-nell» is putting so much sand in the system that no matter what Biden and the Democrats want to do it'll be almost impossible to pass any of what Biden and Democrats want to install for the people.
The best thing that could happen is that the new administration and the DOJ could be able to prove all what the 45th president and his administration did wrong and prosecute Trump ans his cabinet so it'll make that Trump would never be back on any public service for the rest of his life.
For «McCon-nell» it's more than time he leaves and go for his retirement far from Washington.
The RetrumpliconsQ is no more a party of a democracy it's more a party who want USA to become a dictature and a autocracy led by fear and fake facts.
Hearing some of their base «deplorables» talking of all those fake and conspiracy theories more clownesque one from another, not surprising that democracy is in real danger.
I'm eager to see what will come out of Biden-Putine meeting as it's very visible that Putine is laughing to what is happening in USA.
The same for China as they are spreading the ideology that democracy is fading and isn't the best to rule a country.
You need more than a God to save USA.
This is misinformation. McConnell was discussing 2024, an election year, not 2023. This makes a difference as there is long historical precedence for this. Specifically, when Senate and President, both part of the process, are held by different parties.
ReplyDeleteJiEL - The United States is very much in trouble, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteAnon@4:01am - It says right in the first sentence they were talking about 2023.
Oh, he's all about telling it straight, now. They've got a stranglehold on the country and he knows it.
ReplyDeleteRad - Yeah, the entire world is wondering that.
ReplyDeletewhkattk - He's such a douche.
I have always wondered why there was no age limit from which people running a Public Office would have to mandatorily retire. Obviously because it would take these same senescent people to vote such a law. Ouroboros...
ReplyDeleteLike Milleson I believe violence is not the answer, so let's just hope this disgusting 79 year old piece of rottenness is to "meet his Creator" soon, the sooner the better (and if someone out there hands him an anthrax envelope we'll just call it fate).
BatRedneck - I like the way your mind works.
ReplyDelete@batRedeck,
ReplyDeleteI've always wonder how come the «divine justice» can never operate on such «disgusting» people. Yes an anthrax envelope could liberate the planet from many of those silly representatives but I'm very surprised that COVID19 didn't do its deadly work on them too.
As they were gathering without protection, they were lucky not to catch it and die of it too.
For the age limit, our Senators have a 75yo limit and are retired after that age.
The difference here in Canada, is that our Senators aren't elected but named by the party who is in charge in the governement.
As I also mentionned here, those Senators are no more to vote for the bills as part of one or another party. The line of party has been canceled years ago.
The Senate is only seen in federal parliment in Ottawa.
No provincial governement has any Senate.
