When every Senate Republican voted against President Biden’s $1.9 trillion rescue package over the weekend, it revived a question that analysts have asked about the modern GOP for decades: Why do so many conservative Americans vote against their own economic interests? A new analysis by three leading political scientists theorizes this question in a fresh way: by comprehensively analyzing the political economy of red states, relative to that of blue ones. In so doing, they have captured some striking truths about this political moment. Its key finding: We’re in the grip of a paradox. Even as areas that vote Republican continue falling behind blue America economically — helping widen those oft-discussed regional inequalities between cosmopolitan and outlying areas — GOP elites everywhere are growing more committed to an increasingly uniform and regressive agenda that does little to address the problem.

Opinion: The GOP scam is getting worse — for Republican voters. A new study shows how.

It seems to me there is no such thing as "green revolution" in any GOP member, just a dollar-green evolution of their bank accounts - which is all that matters to them in the end..
ReplyDeleteTheir worst nightmare would be for finance leaders to start thinking "socialist", hu! That'd make them go green face. (one can dream...)
When ALL Retrumplicans, Senators and Congessmen (women too) DIDN'T even vote to pass this bill to HELP ALL Americans, that's what you call them, «S of a B...es».
ReplyDeleteSo many of them going to churches, are Jesus blievers and more and they did NOTHING to help the Americans in need.
AND' «Bitch McConnell» in his lamentable and very partisan speech has the gut to critize the bill in such outrageous words.
For now, don't call you «UNITED STATES of AMERICA», but «DIVIDED STATES of POOR AMERICA».
You are now so more divided between «RED» and «BLUE» colors that Americans cannot see any other colors in their lives.
After Texas' disaster, it's obvious that those OLD ways of doing politics an no more be effective in 2021.
Food for thought. That Red States having the so much poverty is absolutely true. They all survive on food stamps and subsidies. Yet... the urban population... according to those people - are the REAL problem. SMH
ReplyDeleteThe Republicans are only out for themselves and not for the brain dead people that vote for them!🙄
ReplyDeleteThose who say republican politics, if they say a true thing, are referring to the economy in general. The wealth of a state, in this case the USA, can also be grown. But those who hold this increased wealth are always the richest people. The middle class and the poor either remain poor or become even more impoverished. I think that's the problem. Wealth increases in general, but not the wealth of individuals, because rich people always remain few and poor people are more and more.
ReplyDeleteEveryone - Wow, so many comments on this article.
ReplyDeleteEach of you had excellent, spot-on, points. I wish I knew how this country is going to survive with all the division that exists now.
And, then, McConnell stands and tells them about all the "pork" that's in the bill the "socialist Democrats" passed...and then Retrumplicans start tweeting about all the great things they have just done for their constituents in passing the bill. They don't know shame. But the real shame is that, when they come up for reelection they will be sent back to D.C..
ReplyDeleteIF and WHEN those Retrumplicans could wake up and really SEE that 73% of Americans of all parties are FOR the Biden relief bill MAYBE, MAYBE they will begin to think about their constituents-voters that are struggling.
ReplyDeleteFor now, they're sleeping deep in Trump's suporific lies of a lost power.
Many Republican states are trying to change to rules for voting and that is so outrageous from a Canadian point of view. They're not fooling everyone in doing such anti democratic attempts in courts. They've done it for decades and it's more time for USA's democracy and its international reputation, to put a national over all law on voting rights.
That is the reason why Republicans are afraid of being never ending loosers as the demographic of USA is changing and the younger ones are getting more and more educated.
As the ignorants were their most part of their base, it would be less possible to play them with lies and bad politics.
Don't call them «conservatives», call them «regressives»..
Additional Everyone - It's agreed: the repugliCONs are hypocrites and grifters. And scum, let's not forget lying, cheating scum.
ReplyDeleteGreat article and brilliant memes, Rick. Particularly the second one. Right on target. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteJimbo - You are very welcome.
ReplyDeleteI realized that my observation is not on the creation of wealth, but on its distribution. The US produces more wealth in general, but in Italy wealth is more evenly distributed. So in Italy, however, there are more "wealthy" people, or at least fewer poor people.
ReplyDeleteXersex - Yes, wealth should be spread more evenly.
