Interlace Apartments, Singapore

  1. Wow! I think this is really innovative. I wonder if this allows them to increase the population density of a particular site as opposed to more traditional tower shapes. It kind of reminds me of Moishe Safdie'a Habitat 67 in Montreal on a bigger scale.

  6. Chris A - Yeah, I can see that comparison.

jsstrand - I bet they do.

    Anon @9:15am - It's quite possible.

Luv chocolate - Wasted space, yes, but nicer appearance than 4-6 monolithic slabs of concrete.

  9. (ok, the devil in me is gonna speak)

"Mmm... what sort of schematics could I give birth to in order to get noticed by the jury and win the deal?" the architect thought.

Seriously, it's true this lot of building looks like Lego, even if it looks better than the monoliths ones nearby, it anyway looks just as a stack of ordinary suburban buildings to me, simply arranged differently.
Even nature and plants seem to be intentionally contained outside this environment.

The architect possibly think of himself as being the new Le Corbusier giving birth to an outstanding new Cité Radieuse.
But let's not dismiss that the brutalist stream that led to building 'housing units' in the after war times took modernism as an excuse to the lack of creating serene environments for the benefit of lodging the many within a lesser space and for a lesser cost.
    It seems history repeats itself.

(now just shut up, little demon, you're making the audience yawn)

  10. ATTN: *SARCASM* AHEAD---jsstrand, I am sorry for the prolonged power outages in your state and in Oregon up in the PNW. I have unleashed this deadly weather on you because your evangelical christians didn't pray hard enough and tithe enough money to my churches. And I'm also punishing you for the existence of ted cruz and louie gohmert. As the good book says, "i work in mysterious ways."
    Signed, god

  11. Rick, it's alright. If he hadn't said TX, I might have missed it too.

  12. BatRedneck - I have to disagree with you that this building looks ordinary. Quite the contrary to me. I feel the arrangement creates different views, and the many outdoor spaces - including the roofs - gives plenty of serenity for the inhabitants. Brutalism was interesting for its time, but the buildings lacked "soul" to me. However, it would be interesting if they had done a cost analysis of square footage to occupants, compared with the slabs of concrete structures.

Milleson - Oh dear. I'm glad you gave us a warning.

  13. I'm feeling a little militant today. Heard rush limbaugh has died. Tried to shed a tear, but damn, I find I haven't a drop of moisture in my entire body today. Here's hoping the trend continues, I doubt he gave a rat's ass when RBG passed.

  14. Milleson - I saw the headline and said "Boo hoo" in a very insincere voice.

  15. Rick, I think none of us are sad Rush died. He surely didn't care about RBG.
