Harry Truman was a Mopar man. A dealer in Missouri always offered Imperials to Truman but he insisted on paying for his own car. Truman owned a 1953 New Yorker, a 1955 New Yorker, a 1960 Dodge Polara as seen here, and his last car was a 1970 New Yorker. In 1958 my grandfather visited the Truman library with family. They got lost and came across a man on his mid-day walk, it was Harry Truman ! They offered him a ride in granddads 58 Dodge, but he insisted on walking after giving them directions to his library. When they got to the library Mr Truman graciously gave them a personal tour. For my grandfather's European relatives, after surviving WW2, witnessing and experiencing the terrors of fascism, aiding the Resistance and cheering on Allied troops in liberated Paris, it was an emotional visit. Here was the American President that led the way to re-build Europe after WW2 as a compassionate human being. This world needs more Trumans. -Rj
Back in the day I had a 1960 red Dodge Dart convertible - push button transmission and lots of chrome - loved it!!!
