To read a little copy and see a few more pix, click on headline...
Hundreds of photographs from the 19th and 20th centuries offer a glimpse at the life of gay men during a time when their love was illegal almost everywhere.
There's also a link to buy the book, if you're interested.
A lovely set of images, it is a sobering thought that images such as these even a few decades ago could have landed the participants and the photographer in jail...even today in certain parts of the world it still could or even a death sentence, but for the bravery of guys such as these we would not be able to free post the images that we enjoy on your site Rick...you are furthering the cause of gay rights by doing so and I salute you my good friend!
What courage those men had, to expose even that moment in time to a photographer, especially the black servicemen. Being outed would have been disastrous on two levels. Would like to imagine they finished their military duty and enjoyed some happiness together. Heartbreaking to think what might have happened.
And, it is important to see what that looks like. We are facing some VERY dark days with the "thing" just sworn in at the WH last night immediately following the vote.
nice vintage

ReplyDeletebobbert - Thank you. And I salute those men, as well.

ReplyDeleteMilleson - Yes, I hope they found happiness too.
ReplyDeleteI have a file of these. Love them. How brave of them. And sweet. I wonder how many of them stayed together for life...

ReplyDeletewhkattk - I understand your sentiment but, I think you made this comment on the wrong post.
ReplyDeleteNo. I meant for that comment o be here. People should know what love between two men looks like: non-threatening, normal emotional attachment.
ReplyDeletewhkattk - Oh, now I understand.
