Rick, I noticed no comments on your post today and didn't want your efforts to go unnoticed. I'll tie this captioned mural in with National Coming Out Day. Love the torpedo innuendo in the sailor's words. Remembering back to the 8 years I gave the Navy in the 70s, That kind of talk would have led to a dishonorable discharge and the end of a life. Carrying that stigma around was not beneficial but very destructive. I chose to hide the true person I was for self preservation. Luckily, with the help of a young gay couple who moved in across the street from me, my coming out day came at 70 years of age. I'm still trying to figure out what this all means, and I am very happy for all the young people who have more freedom to reveal their true selves and live their true lives. Gay people are the greatest, happiness to all of you.
ReplyDeleteAnon - I very much appreciate your comment on this special day. Yours is not the only story like this; survival is a strong motivator to be quiet. Congratulations on coming out! Better late than never! "Gay people are the greatest" means YOU are great also. Do not forget that. Thanks again for writing.
