I get so angry over stories such as this...
An aged pooch, stabbed and left for dead in D.C., is saved
An abandoned senior dog, now named Ladybell, was found July 12 in the District, emaciated and critically injured. The Humane Rescue Alliance said in a statement that after treatment, her condition has improved, “but there’s still a long road ahead for her.” (Humane Rescue Alliance)

Somebody stabbed an old dog twice in the head and dumped her in a trash-strewn lot, barely alive. After a passerby found her, animal rescuers in the District named her Ladybell.
The stabbing had fractured her skull, and that wasn’t all. Her veterinary chart read like a litany of abuse and neglect. A canine’s teeth will often give a fair indication of the dog’s age, but Ladybell’s had rotted too much. The rescuers guessed she’s about 10, a pit bull senior citizen.
“Unfortunately, we see a range of animal cruelty issues here in the District, but this is an extreme case,” Chris Schindler, a vice president of the Humane Rescue Alliance, said Tuesday. “She was stabbed above her left eye, and she was stabbed in the back of her head, which fractured her skull in multiple places. It takes a lot of force to do that, a lot of malicious intent, and it caused such pain and suffering. This is a really horrific act someone did to her.”
That’s why the Humane Rescue Alliance is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and criminal conviction of the abuser. The group asked anyone with a tip to call the alliance at 202-723-5730 and select Option 3.
these stories break the heart
ReplyDeleteI am wrecked by stories like this. This one takes the cake. I can't believe that the person who did this is walking among us. The scariest Monsters look like everybody else. Hope they catch him. And I hope Ladybell makes it and finds the love she deserves. So sad.
ReplyDeleteXersex - Yes, so sad.
ReplyDeleteRad - I hope you weren't terribly injured in the attack! I had wondered if there were going to be stories of "covid adoptions" turning ugly. I prefer animals to most people, as well.
uptonking - Unfortunately, yes, monsters walk among us.
The kind of person who would do this is also the kind of person they just arrested here: 21-years old and lacking empathy - Just like Dumpster.
ReplyDeleteOur shelters here have been picked clean of dogs, and most cats. But, I can foresee a time when this pandemic is over that people no longer want the pet they've adopted. It's damn sad.
BTW - the buttons are working for me today!
Rad - What an awful thing to have happen to you and your dog! I can understand your resultant feelings about pit bulls. But I hope you realize that it's not so much the breed as the caretaker's lack of training.
ReplyDeletewhkattk - Yes, I'm afraid too many pets will become unwanted once the pandemic is over.
I'm glad the buttons are working. I just can't figure out why they are so problematic.
