proportionally more Italians died. Italy has 60 million inhabitants and has had 30,000 deaths. The USA has 300 million inhabitants and 100 thousand inhabitants have died. In proportion, it is as if 150,000 inhabitants had died in the USA or 20,000 inhabitants had died in Italy. The absolute number is higher, but the density is lower.
