  1. Nothing better than an old-school greasy-spoon diner!

  3. I remember back in the 1960’s and 1970’s visiting with my grandfather in New Jersey and driving up to his cabin in Vermont.
He would stop by numerous diners in Connecticut, Mass. and Vermont so we could get some good eats. I remember one called the Colonial Kitchen that served some of the best diner food I ever had - dollar pancakes with real maple syrup, apple cider doughnuts, corned beef boiled dinner, stuffed roast capons and a deep-dish berry pie à la mode.
Sadly, those days and places are long gone, particularly the great and affordable food.

  4. Miss Hulling’s diner was a landmark in St Louis, now long gone. We would dine there for lunch when our mom would take us shopping for school clothes and gifts at the dept stores of Vandervoorts, Famous-Barr and Stix Baer & Fuller.
Adjusted for inflation the meals on the menu would cost between 10 and 13 dollars. Today we pay much more than all that, and the food is never as good. :(
