ReplyDeleteIn science, the word "theory" refers to a body of ideas explaining an aspect of nature, which has been rigorously tested, is supported by a vast amount of real-world evidence, has successfully withstood repeated efforts to challenge it, and has been shown to have extensive explanatory power. It represents the highest level of confidence -- the nearest approach to certainty -- that human knowledge is capable of attaining. The theory of evolution is the supreme example of a scientific theory. It is probably the most solidly established truth in all of human knowledge.
ReplyDelete"God" is a nebulous concept with no clear or generally-accepted definition, usually formulated in such a way as to be impossible to test against evidence. That is, it doesn't even qualify as a hypothesis.
