Again this prove that your old Constitution is no more a warranty of free and democratic elections anymore. Any clown, wealthy felon, pedophile etc can be on a ballot without any problem.
DeleteSimilar to here in the UK, where the Brexit benefits were going to save us all a lot of money, bring back control and so forth. None of this was explained as to how, when questioned on specifics it was all referred to as being just "project fear". Of course it was all complete bollocks other than the cover of the UK passport is now a different colour. Cost the country a fortune and lost major trading partners nearby. "Oven ready Brexit" my arse.
ReplyDeleteThe reason why "we told them this would happen and they voted for him anyway" is that these days most ideological people avoid any news source that doesn't align with their own viewpoint, while many non-ideological people barely follow the news at all. So right-wingers have no idea what left-wingers are saying and vice-versa. This is why so much of the population is now startlingly unaware of a huge chunk of what's going on.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have a defense secretary who cares about defending us, but Hegseth would call himself the secretary of war, and he does seem to care about war. So there's that. (Of course it's not the legal title since only Congress, not the president, has the authority to make such changes to official names.)
And yet he does these changes, they change the titles, they change the names of Federal buildings, the bulldoze the East Wing, they declare war on fishing boats. And his base says, "Look how powerful he is, to make these changes that no one else can do." One more time, it is true. You can't fix stupid. And most of them will never change.
DeleteBack during the 2016 campaign, I KNEW he could not do all that he said he could. Constitutional restrictions being what they were. A constitution he swore to uphold.
ReplyDeleteI have a male cousin who had stated that his wife did not know what she would do if he was not elected. A while after the election was finalized and over, he smiled and asked me what I thought of T. I replied that he had not disappointed me, with all of the stupid things he was doing. That ended any political conversations between us for years. I still shake my head when I think of my business partner, a college educated agricultural person, did not see these things coming, then or now. And HE is apparently NOT the only one that has not seen or could not "trajectory-predict" what has happened.
I learned, about 50 years ago, that if I saw something, others were seeing it too. No need for me to point things out, as others were seeing them too. I went on living my life, as they did too. End result is that "flaky" and "bad" have been normalized to younger people just starting to learn about things.
Tim Snyder put it well during the "We the People" --- it's a "must watch."
