Pyongyang, North Korea
I bet our own illustrious leader would love a statue of himself like these.
An Anonymous viewer sent in this info about that triangular building:
Here is more about the very impressive triangular shaped building.
The Ryugyong Hotel (Chosŏn'gŭl: 류경려관; sometimes spelled as Ryu-Gyong Hotel), or Yu-Kyung Hotel, is an unfinished 105-story, 330-metre-tall (1,080 ft) pyramid-shaped skyscraper in Pyongyang, North Korea. Its name ("capital of willows") is also one of the historical names for Pyongyang. The building is also known as the 105 Building, a reference to its number of floors. The building has been planned as a mixed-use development, which would include a hotel.
Construction began in 1987 but was halted in 1992 as North Korea entered a period of economic crisis after the fall of the Soviet Union. After 1992 the building stood topped out, but without any windows or interior fittings. In 2008 construction resumed, and the exterior was completed in 2011. It was planned to open the hotel in 2012, the centenary of Kim Il-sung's birth. A partial opening was announced for 2013, but this was cancelled.[5] As of 2018, the building remains unopened and has been called the tallest unfinished building in the world.
This set looks a lot tidier than the southern set. A Potemkin City set up to fool the Tsar and hide the starving peasants.
ReplyDeleteOh, you KNOW he wants more than one. If he had his way....
ReplyDeleteChris - Notice there were very few cars?
ReplyDeleteAmazing modern architecture. Wide roads without cars! People there must be poor despite the show. Venetian anonymous

Anon - Thank you for the information about that triangular building! I'm going to add this info to the actual post.
ReplyDeleteinteresting comparison of the two nations. I really imagined North Korea as having zero sky-scrappers. I was confused as if you were showing South Korea on one side of the screen and North Korea on the other side. It now makes perfect sense hearing about the unfinished building.
ReplyDeleteJust wait Dear Leader Trump will find some way to get a statue of himself
(p.s. I was the anonymous poster who asked for the comparison. I just was too lazy to type my name.)
