I could live in one of these... then I look around our 1,200 sqft home at the piles of crap we've accumulated over the... last week... and the sense of overwhelming dread of housecleaning and organizing obliterates any sense for something of that grandeur.
ReplyDeleteRad, There is little doubt that Mrs. Vanderbilt ever washed a dish, hung up a dress after wearing it, swept a floor , dusted a table or scoured her bathtub. With that amount of wealth and grandeur comes a staff of hundreds to keep the owners pampered and proud of the "castle". After watching and reading about the 400 in New York and the aristocrats of the world, I would have gladly served as staff in some way, and been the best damn butler or valet in town. If only to live in the opulence of those 100+ room mansions and not be responsible for the dept that goes with them.
DeleteImage 1- comme beaucoup de château de France. :) Un casse-tête à entretenir et nécessite des spécialistes, des spécialistes très coûteux. :(

The last pic is of Knole in the county of Kent - former palace of the Archbishops of Canterbury now part of the National Trust.
