The second picture looks like a surprisingly well-informed depiction of the K/T impact. South America is still close to Africa, as was the case at the end of the dinosaur era. The impact location is correct (Yucatan). You can even see the inland sea which covered the central part of the Great Plains. Luckily the damage was not as severe as is shown in the last two images. But an asteroid twice as large would have done it -- killed all the life on Earth. NASA's program to detect and divert dangerous asteroids may someday turn out to be the best investment we've ever made.
