ReplyDeleteAfter WW2 many Nazi war criminals managed to endear themselves to Allied occupation officials and received a free pass, a few even went to work for the Allied governments and private businesses in various capacities.
Some Nazi war criminals became thugs and torturers for the communist regimes of Eastern Europe, and after the wall fell, some former communists became rich and powerful through their own connections and local corruption. And like the Nazis, they even avoided prosecution for their crimes of mayhem, murder and torture.
In our own country a perfect example of the opportunist was Dr Henry Kissinger, a sick man, many considered brilliant. How ironic that in his final year he was concerned about the dwindling American middle class, that he help decimate, free trade with China anyone ! Not to mention his involvement in supporting tyranny or enabling war crimes in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Central America, Chile, Iran, Saudi Arabia and others.
The opportunist has no loyalties or morals, instead an egocentric narcissism, a cruel selfishness and a sick delight to harm others is theirs.
