ReplyDeleteIncreasingly, it seems that SCOTUS decisions are decided on very NARROW issues. YET, these decisions are usually felt to apply to very wide issues instead. This is NOT fully understood or explained. In reality, it seems that such "groundbreaking" decisions really are meaningless, once it's all over. Like the discussion in LA about their abortion law really beind definitive and such!
ReplyDeleteSame with the ruling on Coach Kennedy's prayer practices. YOU have to read the back-story, plus other factors, to really see what the coack was seeking to do. Yet the decision was about "public prayer" and nothing else, as Gorsuch claimed. NO mention of the separation of church and state, either. Which makes that whole case about somebody seeking to prove something, like the "wedding cake" suits and such.
Increasingly, it seems that "people" want to scream about not being able to enjoy their "rights", especially if something might be in the way of them doing what they perceive they should be able to do. NOT stopping to coinsider that other people have rights too and THEY might desire to exercise/enjoy their rights too!
The USA is not the "white, Christian" country it used to be, but some "people" have not come to really understand that, it seems. By NOT fully understanding that, "exercising their rights" can lead to some very undesired (to them) consequences. Which also proves they can't really think two sentences ahead of what they just said . . . even the new SCOTUS justices.
