  2. I've posted this one sometimes on my blog « https://distresscalls.tumblr.com/https://distresscalls.tumblr.com/ ».

It's a Boeing B-377 maybe one of the last prop engine airliner for civilians trips.

Planes are one of my favorite stuff to know about.

  5. Google images of the Stratocruiser's service for Northwest (Orient) Airlines! It carried many people to and from Japan...it was amazing!

  6. This was a thing? Back when airlines placed customer comfort over profit.

  10. Unfortunately, the Stratocruiser's supercharged engines were notoriously unreliable. She was nicknamed "The best three-engine airliner over the Atlantic".

  11. Anon@5:33pm - That is very funny - NOT! Too scary.

  12. The Boeing Stratocruiser had problems with their air-cooled engines and their propeller blades. The rear pistons of their Wasp radial engines did not receive enough cooling air and would seize, causing engine shutdowns.
This caused 2 fatal crashes. The propeller pitch mechanisms and blade design also caused 2 fatal crashes. And one tragic incident when a woman passenger was sucked out a of window over the Amazon.
In 1956 a Pan Am Stratocruiser had to ditch in the Pacific Ocean N/E of Hawaii due to propeller overspeed (the blade tips can reach hypersonic speeds).
You can see the incident and rescue on You Tube, everyone survived. -Rj
