ReplyDeleteGordon Grant was an amazing hunk from the 1970's and 1980's. "Hot Truckin'" is probably his best known film; I have this movie, remastered and restored as a Bijou Classics release. Although it has the disjointed, kind of unconnected vignettes of pre-Joe Gage films, nevertheless all the scenes are hot!
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, for such a major porn star of the period, Gordon did very few original films and almost all of them were solo scenes; most of the body of his work that exists are re-issues or compilations and the like. With a publicized height of somewhere between 6'1" and 6'4" (depending on the publisher), Gordan was a tall, physical presence who worked at the Post Street Gym in San Francisco as a personal trainer when he wasn't filming. Despite the common belief that body builders had small equipment downstairs, Gordon's tool was reportedly somewhere between 8.75 and 10 inches (again, depending on the publisher).
Unlike a lot of stars of that era or place, he wasn't "discovered" by Colt - he did a few minor solo scenes for throwaway studios and then got his break in a Falcon Studios film ("Falcon Shorts"), doing a solo called "Young Conquest" sometime around 1976. Fun fact - it was on the same set that John Holmes did his first 200' solo reel for Falcon.
Gordon bounced around a lot studio-wise; after "Hot Truckin'" he went to Colt in 1979 to do a 250' reel as well as modeling work; it was during this period that most of his print work was produced. This is also the year that he also produced Falcon's legendary "The Crotch Watcher" movie. But sadly, this also marked pretty much the final end of his original work (he did one more solo scene for Falcon on a Bisexual collection film in 1986); everything that came afterward were just regurgitated collections of previous small stuff.
Gordon died of AIDs Related Causes in 1990 - it was a real loss to the adult entertainment world (and gay men everywhere!). He was 43 years old.

ReplyDeleteJim French gave Don Bowman the moniker Gordon Grant after the artist of the same name.
Said to have been born in Alaska or New Mexico of part Native American heritage. Numerous people claim to have seen him working at different jobs - security guard, construction, art seller, gas station cashier, physical trainer and metal salvager. Apparently taking odd jobs to get by. Everyone that met him said he was down to earth with no ego, unassuming, and surprised people were attracted to him. Active in porn from
1975-1977 in LA and SF, directors of his porn films said he was excellent to work with, reliable and never a problem.
Bowman lived in Las Vegas in his final years with a lover who was a trans man. His lover was said to be very controlling. There are public records of a Don Bowman 1949-1993.
