  1. Hoover Dam. Damn government projects. Nothing but welfare for the poor and energyless. Let them get their own electricity.

  2. I would hope that eye is a painting...that would bug me... LOL.

Hoover at the "Fill 'er up!" stage.

  3. That’s about the current water level at Hoover Dam today. The Colorado River water shed has collapsed. Climate change is real.

  4. Toured Hoover Dam in 1963. An amazing place! A "Modern Marvel" of USA design and engineering. There is a quite neat documentary on PBS of building the dam. About how Las Vegas was a dusty town back then, transformed into its "heyday" state by WATER. Quite amazing how they did the construction in a time before mass mechanization. Amazing how it was done so quickly!

  5. According to official records 96 men died during the construction of Hoover Dam, though the number is more likely 121 dead. The first fatality was a man named John Tierney, 14 years later the last fatality was Patrick Tierney, his own son ! John was killed in a flash flood during a survey for the proposed dam in 1921, and his son Patrick, an electrician’s helper, fell 320 feet to his death from one of the tall intake towers in 1935.

    1. Rj - I knew there had been deaths, but I didn't know it was that high of a number.

That is sad, about the deaths during the construction of the Hoover Dam. That certainly had to be hard on the Tierney family.

      Thanks for sharing, Rj.

  6. 1- the iris of that eye looks like a keyhole to that person’s soul.
2- you think they would make those railings taller, wouldn’t want to fall off any of those balconies in that place ! :(
