No, Canada hasn’t launched a suicide prevention hotline for LGBTQ+ Americans
Misinformation Alert: There have been false claims circulating online suggesting that 1-877-330-6366 is a new national suicide crisis line for everyone in the U.S. due to recent political developments. This is incorrect, as it is strictly the Canadian number for Trans Lifeline.
Trans Lifeline is a non-profit organization providing a peer support and crisis hotline run by trans people for transgender and questioning individuals. They offer support and resources, even for those not in immediate crisis. Their US number is (877) 565-8860.
Operating Hours: As of January 1, 2024, Trans Lifeline's operating hours have been reduced due to budgetary restrictions. The hotline is available Monday-Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM Pacific time (1 PM to 9 PM Eastern time).

THANK YOU for providing this phone number!!!!
ReplyDeleteAs "great" as the current "party in power" and "administration" seem to perceive themselves as, they are showing the WORLD just how "flaky" they really are. The "enablers" are proving just how much they can be "coat tail holders-onto" than really being concerned with really helping their constituents that need their help. As they send "hope and prayers" everywhere, when needed, rather than really working to prevent those problems/issues from happening again, instead. I'm hoping that our citizens will start to tire of this "political reality show" we are a part of. Change the station! Letting Democrats, who might be "rich" but also care about others and our USA country.
Someday, those who are on the "oligarch" coat tails will realize that being "Elite" and "doing something" is best for all of the nation as a whole. Thanks to our friends and neighbors in Canada for their compassion and goodness! It is appreciated!!
Cdadbr - Thank JiEL for making me aware of it.
DeleteCanada has always covered America’s back. From Ww1, Ww2, and the Korean and Desert Wars. Not to mention the vast ELINT system that is used to track any possible attacks on North America and their sharing of intelligence. During the Iran hostage crises it was Canada that provided refuge for trapped Americans at their embassy. Now they provide a life saving service to our LGBT community, and yet our government stabs our brother in the back, and we let lunatics shamefully allow it !
ReplyDeleteI hope we in the USA and the people of Canada get relief in the 2026 midterms and reverse and heal the horrors done to everyone.

Rj - Well said.
DeleteHey Rick - I copied the meme and posted it on other social media sites, and was bombarded with comments that it’s not real.
ReplyDeleteI called the number, and it IS an active trans suicide hotline, but it doesn’t originate in Canada. It is however true that the Trump Kakistocracy is systematically phasing out all LGBTQ+ outreach.
But as of now, according to the fact checkers at the Advocate, this is a rumor that developed legs. I really wanted it to ge true. Sigh.

Important Notes:
Misinformation Alert: There have been false claims circulating online suggesting that 1-877-330-6366 is a new national suicide crisis line for everyone in the U.S. due to recent political developments. This is incorrect, as it is strictly the Canadian number for Trans Lifeline.

Non-Consensual Active Rescue Policy: Trans Lifeline has a policy against non-consensual active rescue, meaning operators will not call 911 or emergency services without the caller's explicit request and consent. This policy is based on research suggesting that involuntary hospitalization can be detrimental.
Spanish Language Option: Trans Lifeline has a Spanish language extension staffed by multilingual volunteers.
Inside Advocacy Project: Trans Lifeline also operates the Inside Advocacy project, which supports incarcerated trans people by providing funds for commissaries and microgrants to those in ICE detention.
Milleson - Thank you for all of that info. I'm gonna use it to amend the post.
