Their mentality is that it's better for everyone to be deprived, than to take the risk that someone unworthy might be helped.
ReplyDelete"...and let's convince the masses to do our bidding by keeping them ignorant. Them against them is a lot better then them against us."
ReplyDeleteI am still picking apart the message of an armed, diehard MAGA follower loading a rented Tesla Cybertruck with munitions and blowing it up outside a Trump property. Rooftop shooter in Lancaster, PA. Guy stalking the golf course in Florida with an assault rifle. Is this... an inflection point are we witnessing?
I believe that class consciousness is starting to displace traditional left-vs-right politics. It is happening among right-wingers too. A lot of MAGA types are mad at Trump for siding with Elongated Muskrat on the H-1B dispute. I don't think the motive of the Las Vegas bomber specifically is known yet, and it may never be, but this is a real and broad-based phenomenon.
DeleteRad - I like that quote!
DeleteOne cannot be held responsible for the occupations of ancestors.
ReplyDeleteBut if a person claims resentment about the punishment of his evil ancestors as a basis for passing judgment on socialism, that claim which he himself is making now can legitimately be criticized.
DeleteIt may come about in the US; if the MAGA crowd catches on the jig will be up.
ReplyDeleteWhat everyone else has already said. And I will add the images may make a reappearance elsewhere. 😉
ReplyDeleteThat last one.... this country suffers from a Civil War hangover from which it has never recovered. People in the red states remain convinced...
ReplyDeleteSocial Security came along because human nature is not to save money,
ReplyDeleteas many found to their detriment during the Great Depression. And those that did save saw their savings evaporate when there were bank runs and bank failures, and you were lucky if you got 10 cents on every dollar you had saved. Community chests, poor houses and charities were overwhelmed by the demand for help and many ran out of funds or were forced to close. FDR proposed Social Security because it made people put monies towards their retirement and benefits in the likelihood of being disabled. Monies they otherwise would not have saved. Imagine not having Social Security, a benefit you pay for, not an entitlement as some critics falsely claim. Could you really get by without Social Security, and could you honestly save for retirement or have the funds necessary in case you ended up disabled ? Some people think they can, the lessons of the Great Depression prove otherwise.

Social Security is ONLY an "entitlement" as if I contribute to it, I am entitled to withdraw money from it later on, when "retirement age" approximately is reached. Yet the "entitlement" issue is purported to be "evil" by those who probably don't need it anyway, but I suspect ARE getting it themselves.
ReplyDeletePerhaps our society has grown too rich? When people don't mind paying somebody to bring their fast food to them, rather than going to get it themselves, lets them eat McDonald's and nobody knows. An incognito version of "class warfare"??
The "lessons of the Great Depression" are vanishing as those who lived through it, or children of them, are vanishing due to age. The "modern generations" have not been taught how those lessons resulted in federal legislation to put "Oversights" in place to keep us from doing it again. Many people take these "Oversights" for granted, but would certainly scream about how somebody ripped them off on "Nextdoor" or other social media. And ask "How can they do that and get away with it, legally?" if they were not in place.
EVERY item put in place, was done to prevent us from "doing ourselves in, financially, and in other ways." Public schools/universal education helped us build for the future, with knowledgeably future citizens. Education that benefits ALL people, not just "some". So that past mistakes will not be repeated in the future! Providing a platform from which to become a better country, even if it might take some "investment money from the government" to make it happen. Problem is that "conservatives" always question these investments in the future, so they won't approve funding, as they continue to shout "Less Taxes for all!", as if that's really going to save anybody any money in the long run.
@Cdadbr Exactly!
DeleteIt is common usage to say things like "He acts so entitled" or "She has such a sense of entitlement" meaning the person has an _undeserved_ sense of entitlement. From this, the connotation "spreads" so that an entitlement sounds like a bad thing. BUT THAT'S WRONG! If I worked for a period of time defined by law, I am legally entitled to Social Security benefits. Just as, if I am a citizen who is not a felon and has registered, I am entitled to vote. But so many people, even those in favor of these social benefits, have bought into the thought that an entitlement is something not deserved. I fear it is a losing battle.
In Norway we have socialism as you call it for medical care, humane care, basically government investment of our tax dollars for all :) You should do the same. You never see conservatives in America come up with plans to solve problems, all they do is stall and criticize while your problems get worse.
ReplyDeleteDid the Affordable Care Act not come into being because your private sector never has a solution for affordable medical care ? All they have are just ruinous vehicles for profit where stockholders and executives are far more important than the customer, not a good business model when your customers die off.
