1970s Men's Fashion

I was around during this time, but was a long-haired hippy.

  3. The wonders of double knit polyester and the latest synthetic dyes.
2- two wild and crazy guys, one of whom is from Czechoslovakia
4- three studs ready to disco
    5- gay apparel leisure wear
6- and the latest in fashions for pimps.
Yes, the atrocities of 70’s fashion, thankfully over.

  4. Those leaner cuts of clothes made even skinny guys look sexy and active. Lean muscle was operative! For guys that fit into them, that was great. Add some thighs with a bit of shapely muscle, all the much better. I was not one of those lean guys, back then!
Then came the Leisure Suit! "Mature Men's" jeans, with more room in the glutes, for comfort. And then those awful "board short" styles! "Style" became sloppy!
Still, loved to see the Intl Male catalogs, for leaner and more-normal-sized males with muscles.
I generally liked, but did not participate in, the Disco Era. Music was energetic and upscale. Styles were "get dressed up for a night out and possible action", too. Neat times!
Still, through all of this, there were some guys that looked best in 1" inseam denim cut-offs and a white t-shirt/tank top! Showing muscular thighs in the process.

  6. Such a groovy time. Sorry I missed it... Reminds me of a scene right out of the movie, "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka". Or from Beretta, the character Huggie Bear.

  7. I was wearing 501's even then...well, when I wasn't in uniform.

  8. I don't remember late 60s fashion being so hideous, but I was still a kid and wasn't really tuned into it anyway.

  9. Never wore anything but wranglers back then.

  10. Men's fashion is sloth to change, from the 1700s European influence to the 1800s evolution to the 2 and 3 piece suit that continued into the 1900s. In the 1960s, men felt confidant to leave the traditional gray, brown, navy and black fabrics of the 1950s and explore other possibilities. Yes, today this apparel looks ridiculous and laughable, but it had several things going for it. It was COLORFUL. It was impeccably maintained and men paid more attention to grooming and looking nice. Above all, it bothered the shit out of the older generations, but that was just an added bonus.
I for one miss those days. Now it's anything goes, as long as it looks like what everyone else is wearing; baggy cargo shorts, hoodies worn in summer with shower shoes, Crocs(Ugg), pants so tight they look sprayed-on and tight suits that are worn sans socks/stockings. My opinion, entitled to it. Happy Holidays to all!

    1. You're right Milleson, in the US it has all become much, much more casual. I like some aspects of the casual, but like everything, it can go extreme. I mean, sheesh, has some respect for yourself at least.

On particular fashion style that I DO NOT LIKE is the cell phones in the front pockets! Finally, tight pants come back in fashion and men can show themselves, but now there's this horrid square bulge obstructing the view!
