Many of the so-called religious are far from it, they just get off making others miserable to feel superior for themselves and their so-called beliefs. -Rj
May I see a show of hands out there? How many in class today believe that the Greek and Roman gods, including Zeus, Hera, Jupiter, Juno et al, are real? (Long pause looking for a raised hand) So that's a no from all of you? Those gods were certainly real for European people over many centuries. Why did they fall out of favor? Did the gods fail the people in some way or were they replaced with other gods and other religions? Yes, about that time the new Christianity came along and relegated the Greek and Roman gods to the dustbin of antiquity. And we now have a god who likewise is unseen as Zeus and Jupiter were but is believed to be the only true god. Interesting...
I'm afraid that god will have to make himself physically known to me before I can believe. If he is as omnipotent and omniscient as they say it should be a piece of cake for him to materialize. I'm afraid I'll need to change my name to Thomas and ask to see the nail holes in this Christ's hands and feet and view the stab wound in his side before I believe. You say I must have faith? I view the faithful as a people who have ceded their power to think and reason, given gladly to a god that to this day allows the most despicable and evil humans among us to practice their savagery and lie(you know who these people are) and allow horrendous wars, murders, natural disasters to continue unabated and unchallenged. It would seem that an almighty god would stop the carnage and make us all docile, peace loving nations, sharing the bounty of the earth with everyone. Please tell me when I can expect any of this to happen. That would be so nice.
