When I was in college and soon thereafter, lots of my friends were getting married. Congrats to them! Later, I noticed that they ALL wanted ME to get married, too. As if they wanted me to be in the same "not ideal" situation they had gotten themselves into, too. "Misery loves company"?

In more recent times, it seems the GOP is advocating for child birth. With the underlying issue being that any children born into a GOP family, will be "indoctrinated" into the GOP orientations, not unlike a particular church that is against contraception, it seems. Relying procreation to swell their ranks as they (GOP) have not been able to come up with other "compelling reasons" of policies for others to follow them, it seems.

OMG! This is so early 20th century stuff here in province of Québec.

Pushed by the Catholic Church the priests were telling us, French speaking people, to have as many children as we could to «save» our French speaking population.

Back in the 1920-30 it wasn't rare to see families with 12 or even 14 children.

I was born in 1950 and the priest in my mom's parish said he wouldn't give her communion if she wouldn't get pregnant after my birth.
Lucky my grand mother was a very strong woman and she went to that priest with arguments he just backed of with.

Have to say that my birth was not easy for my mon. I came out my ass first and totally folded head over heels.

JiEL - That must have been very hard on your mom.

@Ricko,
She had the support of my grand mother and of my dad too.
Mon went with her doctor's concel to take care of her health which is more useful than the priest.

I told you that after the 60's the Catholic Church influence on our society was going down and for sure, the sexual scandals and more did affect our faith in the religion.

Today, so many churches are no more attended that they are in sale because no one goes to church anymore.
