This last meme made me curious, so I looked it up...
Aardwolves take special care not to destroy the termite mound or consume the entire colony, which ensures that the termites can rebuild and provide a continuous supply of food. They will often memorize and return to nests to save the trouble of finding a new one. As a aardwolf consumes a column of termites, the proportion of soldier termites increases, and worker termites decreases, and the soldier termites squirt noxious terpenes when attacked, which eventually becomes too much for the aardwolf and it terminates its feeding (Grzimek et al. 2004).

ReplyDeleteThe only thing keeping MTG from being the dumbest member of congress is Louie Gomert. Or maybe Ron Johnson. Or maybe Mike Johnson.
ReplyDeleteI hope the Irish gave that soldier a proper burial.
As for the wolf: Animals are smarter than humans.
From a Canadian point of view it's so surprising, not to say outrageous, to see all those crazies or incompetents that can be elected in your governement chambers and offices.
ReplyDeleteJust the crazy wanna be Furher Orange fat man is showing how twisted the USA's politic system is flawed and that anyone can go in election IF he is super wealthy with no moraltity even is your so called «Christian» society.
Loved the piece about the aarwolf (well, all them but the aarwolf especially). We can learn a lot from animals if we'd only pay attention. Thanks for posting these, too.
ReplyDeleteI read a story in the 8th grade about Roger Williams, the founder of Rhode Island. He and his wife were buried next to an apple tree, its roots seeking out the bodies and formed a network of small roots that mimicked the shape of their bodies.
ReplyDeleteSome writings dispute "the tree that ate Roger Williams" while others do not mention his wife, but still an interesting historical occurrence.
Purple Wolf - You're very welcome.
