Today is National Gun Violence Awareness Day and the start of Wear Orange Weekend. It's time to #WearOrange and demand action.
With gun violence devastating our communities, we're going to show we won't stop working to end this crisis. We should not have to live in fear that gunfire can ring out at any moment, whether it's at an elementary school in Uvalde, a supermarket in Buffalo, a front porch in Philadelphia, a medical office in Tulsa, or graduations across the country. We deserve more.
What George said!
ReplyDeleteI plan to join the march on June 11th. I only wish I could afford to go to DC to do it.
In 1970 there was a sentence from one of our great author put in a murale at the «Grand Theatre» of Québec city that did huge waves in the population.
ReplyDeleteThis sentence was from a poem and said: "Vous n'êtes pas tannés de mourir bande de caves.... " Which means: "Aren't you fed up of dying gang of silly people.."
As Biden said and so many REAL American, enough is enough.
When the Second Amendment, which is from another century, is becoming more important than the FIRST amendement, there is a real issue to make USA a safe country to live in.
Thank God I live in Canada.
Pat - Same here.
ReplyDeleteJiEL - Yeah, it's really a mess here.
"And he's fucking dancing"... This reminded me of Hitler dancing at Berchtegaden, his private eagle nest, while innocent people were slaughtered in camps as per his orders.
ReplyDeleteI could wish for some - inspired - lunatic to fire an AR-15 burst right in the Ogre's head (easier to target than his inseam) but most GOP's representatives would most surely use it as a mean to convincetheir brainwashed base to arm themselves even more heavily against those they dislike.
Even as an abroad foreigner citizen I can't help but being frightened by the madness that has taken hold of so many basically good people in the U.S..
From the long distance I 'comfortably' sit in, and as much as a pacifist I may be, I know that with being in charge comes the responsibility to act according to the greater good.
And there's no greater good for the U.S citizens than making sure their democracy remains what it's meant for: to grant men and women the right to be free while respecting the right of everyone to live as they wish. Putting guns, and assault rifles for starters, out of the equation is an obvious decision the current administration HAS to find a way to definitely put in place. The individual so-called liberty weighs no more than a feather compared to the appalling amount of victims that pile up day after day.
Mr Biden: grow a pair and start actually acting while you're in charge! Or else your tombstone will read "he was benevolent, but that was all because he did not act upon it..."
George has it right. Now the Dems need to pick it up and start using it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this. I wasn't even aware that this was the national day.
Wishing you great peace.
Laurent - Absolutely, Biden needs to grow a pair.
ReplyDeleteLets make the min age to buy any multi-shot firearm 25 yrs old. The rental car companies set that age, which also coincides with the full maturarion of the frontal lobe of the brain.
ReplyDeleteThe other issue is that mental health needs to be a segment of any school health class. Teaching kids to realize that in order to "get even", there are far better ways to do it than with a gun. Ways you can live to tell others about! Doing it with a gun will just get YOU killed, 9.99 times out of 10.
As things evolve, there were LOTS of failures in Uvalde. Like the "911" calls going to the Police Department rather than the school's police dept. And that the "Commander" did not have his police radio on him through all of the situation. No communication! Wonder if the citizens of Uvalde will like for their taxes to be raised to upgrade communications?
Anon@5:19pm - You made excellent, common-sense points. If only the red members of Congress would do the same. I read that 40% of Uvalde's budget goes to the police, so they should not get any more money, just better cops with better training.
ReplyDeleteThere they are the 3 repubs voting how they cannot accept the truth about how cold, insensitive, despicable, deplorable, disgusting and corrupt the repubs really are.
ReplyDeletejr - They don't care about children being slaughtered.

THIS is the best response to the gun carnage tolerated by America. Thank you Clara Jeffery and Mother Jones. Share this with family, friends, social media, co-workers, local and national media contacts and send to your national representative and senators as well as your state representative / delegate and senator (I did).

Bucknackt - Thank you for the link! Very interesting read.
ReplyDeletejust last sunday, I read a long article that said your ex-Potus will almost certainly run for the 2024 elections, with a good chance of winning them.
ReplyDeleteXersex - I hope he dies before that happens.
ReplyDeleteYou better hope so, because he has - by his own admission - lost a brother who was much smarter than him, but had the defect of smoking and drinking a lot. Then he died. So he vowed to lead an alcohol-free and tobacco-free life.
