Dog survives after being dragged behind vehicle near Thibodaux, Humane Society says

Authorities are offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest after a dog was dragged behind a vehicle near Thibodaux.

A young couple found the injured tan-and-white-colored pit bull terrier about 5:30 p.m. April 1 near a sugarcane field near Judge Becnel Lane, authorities said. They contacted Thibodaux animal control officer Kamie Burgos who took the dog to the Ridgefield Animal Hospital.

The dog suffered burns on her pads, the top of her paws, elbows and chest, officials said. Most of the animal’s nails had also been filed off.

After treating the dog with anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics, the animal was later taken in by Alonna Chauvin and her 15-year-old daughter, Chloe, who operate Top Tail Rescue and Pet Services in Houma, officials said.

The dog, which has since been named Jelly Bean, is expected to make a full recovery, Human Society of Louisiana Director Jeff Dorson said.

“We may never know what happened to poor Jelly Bean, but we are grateful she was found, treated and will be loved for the rest of her life,” Dorson said. “We also hope that the person(s) who did this to Jelly Bean will have to appear in court and explain what happened and why she was covered in burns and left in a cornfield, likely to die from her injuries.”

The Humane Society of Louisiana, which paid for Jelly Bean’s medical care, is offering a $500 reward. Anyone with information is asked to call the Human Society at 1-886-HUMANE or email info@humanela.org.

You can help pay Jelly Bean’s medical care at humanela.org, through its PayPal account at humanela@gmail.com or by sending a check or money order to HSLA, P.O. Box 740321, New Orleans, LA 70174. All donations are tax-deductible.
