Neat stuff. I love the third photo. I wonder if that house is still standing and in what state? Castles are cool, too... love touring things like this.
ReplyDeleteNo.4 is Chenonceau castle on the Cher river in France.
ReplyDeleteI visited it in 1989 and it always was one of my favorite France's castle.
When as a kid I could have it on the cover of my writing books I would choose it.
It's also named the «Ladies castle».
The gardens near it are beautiful too.
PS. When they say the Loire castles, it's not all true because many are on the Cher river. Those castle were more like summer residences for nobles and kings.
Not far from it is Chambord Castle which I also visited.
JiEL - I like No.4 a lot.
ReplyDeletePhotos 1 and 2 are Burg Eltz, near the Rhine river in Germany. A branch of the family that lived there in the 12th century still lives there today. It is seasonally open to the public, and I visited it.
ReplyDeleteI also visited no. 4, Chenonceau. Built in the 1500s, it was given by King Henry II to his mistress, Diane de Poitiers, who built the section that spans the river. When Henry died, his jealous queen, Catherine de Medici, seized the chateau for herself. During the French Revolution, when many properties of the nobles were destroyed, Chenonceau was spared because it was useful as a bridge across the Cher river.
