ReplyDeleteNo thanx, have experienced whiplash on some of them.
Her chocolate cake is too gooey for its own good. The best way to bring out chocolate flavor is with a tablespoon or two of semisweet dutch chocolate powder and a half teaspoon of instant coffee. And always mix your cake batter with a whisk during preparation.

Rj - You sound like you've made a cake to two.
DeleteOh yes !
DeleteOne day my paternal grandma said she was tired of cooking and it was my turn to help out.
I learned mostly from watching her cook, and her rule of thumb was if you’re not sure how hot to cook food in the oven always go by 350°. She learned to cook from her mother, who had been raised on a farm in Northern California and baked everything from scratch. Of course in those days they had the time and fortitude to cook all day !
Great granma was said to have been the best cook in the family.
I never knew her or had her food as she had died in 1946. Her specialities were cakes and pies of all kinds, carrot pudding, English trifle with ladyfinger cakes, and dishes she learned to cook from her Irish mother in law like Irish meatloaf and Irish beef stew. Not to mention ethnic dishes she and my grandma learned to cook from Italian, German, Polish and Russian neighbors in San Francisco.
