  1. #1: Not a chance in Hell. Not in a country where ordinary buildings routinely fall apart and a state-of-the art new bridge collapsed less than a year after they finished it (Hongqi).

#2: If you extracted every last trace of gas available to form an atmosphere on Mars -- released all gases dissolved in the surface rocks, vaporized both ice caps, everything -- you'd have an atmosphere only 7% as dense as Earth's, and none of it would be oxygen. There's no magnetic field to shield the surface from lethal, carcinogenic solar radiation. The soil contains chemicals poisonous to the soil bacteria all Earthly plants need to survive. The gravity is only one-third of what it is here, which would cause numerous health problems over long periods. As for sending colonists, NASA estimates that sending just three or four people for a short visit (equivalent to the Apollo Moon missions) would cost almost half a trillion dollars. A real colony would cost a good chunk of the whole world's total economic output for several years. Colonizing Mars is flat-out impossible. It's just one of Elon Musk's silly fantasies. We need to forget about it and focus on continuing to fix Earth's climate.

    1. Infidel - I read that the Hongqi bridge collapsed because a landslide took it out. You're right about Mars, thanks for you knowledge about it.

#1) It asks at the end, are you ready to take on this thrilling adventure? FUCK NO, I'M NOT!! In fact, I have to lie down for a spell before I look at the other little movies! LMAO, but true. Will be back later on!

Last one) I didn't really get the last one. Is it trying to say bananas have a lot of bacteria on them?

  6. I was going to comment that, as usual, Tyson's plain logic was all people needed to see how projects about colonizing Mars was stupid and a project of least importance, but you put it so much better. Thank you!
Though let's not be fooled. Guys like Musk do not intend to create a safe harbor there, even for the wealthiest of elite. Their sole purpose is to make money from it through resources exploitation like new 'rare earths' and the like. After all, he just got granted a trillion dollars of benefits he can spend on this hobby of his...

  7. Mm... Golden retrievers... I still remember the time I had to pick up mine from a muddy stream he dived in (big splash!!). I had to lie down on the riverbank to pick up his 42 kilo of mudded dog hair :-)
