Spared by the Taliban and other extremists because it is a mosque, unlike the ancient and historic Greco-Roman ruins of Palmyra in Syria and the Buddhas of Bamiyan in Afghanistan. :( They literally destroy the roots of their own culture and great men of science and letters of the ancient Islamic world like Ibn al-Haytham, Omar Kayyam, Al-Nasawi, not to mention Fatima Al Firhi a Muslim woman who founded the worlds first university in Fez Morocco 859, would be silenced and their brilliance denied by the Islamic extremists of today. -Rj

A minaret you say? And all this time I thought it was a really, really ugly wedding cake. Who knew?
DeleteRj - Sounds like they're no smarter than the maga crowd.
DeleteThat third picture...hot, humid, and I can hear the cicadas buzzing. Looks like summer to me.

Beau - Neat story, thanks for sharing it.
DeleteThat mosque... looks like the tower of Babel... which, I suppose it is - (babble, babble, babble).
