  1. 1958 to 1980, the years encompassing what I think were the best years of automotive design. The stylists and designers at GM, Ford and Chrysler seemed to have carte blanche and gave us car eye candy like never before. Yes, they weren't mechanically and structurally sound, but the WOW! factor was very evident. The proportions of the 2-door hardtops was outrageous. The longer the hood, the better. I enjoyed owning a 1973 and 1976 Monte Carlo and wish I'd have kept the silver/red 1976 model, it was gorgeous.

    1. I would agree---I miss the bold designs of this period ---I was born in 1957----I remember when all cars started to look alike, have the same few colors, and morphed into SUVS. I have to admit I have seen a few cars in nice orange and flat gray-looking colors. I need cars of yesterday with today's sensibilities.

    2. Milleson - I had a friend decades ago whose Monte was rear-ended and when she picked it up after repair, she took me for a ride. Unfortunately, that car got rear-ended while I was with her. Bummer.

  2. Classics, all. I know they sucked gas like I suck dick, but man... they had style.

  3. The 1959 Chevy were 80-inch wide to accommodate the massive windshields and rear windows used by all of GM’s divisions to save overall costs as demanded by the bean counting accountants. Had an aunt who owned a 1960 Pontiac Bonneville with the big rear window as seen on this Impala, it shattered when she left the windows rolled up in the morning on what became a very hot day ! She was convinced a vandal smashed the window, but as my dad pointed out the shattered glass was all over the trunk, having imploded out. Otherwise if a person smashed it, the glass would have been all over the back seat !

    1. Rj - I've heard that back windows can do that on very hot days.
