Repulbicans seem to have become the party of distraction ("red meat" issues) and "smoke and mirrors", which was intensified by their last president. The pattern, after President GW Bush, is that their president presides over a worsening economy, then at the end of his term, a Democrat is elected, who must then reverse the slide. Obama did that well, although Republicans claimed he did it wrong and later "It would have been faster if we had done it". YET they didn't do it. With every victory which Obama had in this area, they found something else to claim they would have done it better, it seemed. YET they didn't . . . as they did everything they could to make Obama fail (as McConnell plainly stated on Obama's first day in office.

Obama handed Trump a good economy, as Trump said he'd make it better. With tax cuts to rich individuals/corporations which were supposed to pay for themselves, but didn't, as the USA's total revenue continued downward as a result. What part of "less revenue, more spending" do they perceive as beneficial? Not in their personal lives would they do that, I suspect. But the USA? They can just print more money.

Taxes fund things like police, fire, public schools, and infrastructure. Yet we have failing infrastructure across the nation. Police departments which are usually understaffed and can't find enough new recruits. "Getting ready to fail" bridges and pot-holed roads. Many of the best roads were built in the 1960s when LBJ was President, by observation. With good maintenance, they are just as good today as when they were built. AND tax rates were much higher than today.

Republicans delay/prevent spending when they are in power, then the "great levelling" to get things back to where they should have otherwise been happens when a Democrat is President, by observation. A HISTORIC cycle, it seems. Then Republicans complain about how much more taxes will be paid under a Democratic administration than when a Republican is President, as in a "Vote republican" campaign slogan. Further demonizing anything the Democrats might need to do in the process.

If somebody does something a Republican/Conservative doesn't like, they get demonized as "bad"/"radical"/"legislating from the bench" (for "activist judges"). But when the opposite happens, everything's peachy. THEY got their way, regardless of whom might be hurt by it, including some Republicans. We need to elect MORE Democrats in the mid-term elections. To keep the current momentum to get things closer-back to normal (in so many aspects of our existence on this Earth!). At the local, state, and federal levels. This will be hard in our "sound byte" world where Republicans give the impression that THEY are in charge, know best for all, and will "fix things" is prevalent.

It should be remembered that the USA fought World War II against fascism, YET Republicans want to take us into that world the USA fought against, it seems. Let THEM explain their way out of that!!! YET they seem to still be "The Party of Trump" (who seemingly adores fascist dictators for their power over others).

Rather than hiding behind smoke, mirrors, and words, let THEM really PROVE THEY might be the best choice! Let THEM list their real accomplishments which benefited ALL segments of the USA or world societies. Let THEM list their efforts to extend the life of our planet. Having all of the money and a lot of the influence will mean nothing if the Earth continues on its present condition. Of course, Trump would wave his magic wand to fix all of that . . . as Ocean Rise further encroaches on Mara-Lago.

Anon@6:59am - I really enjoyed your comment. You pointed out all of the things that are wrong with repugliCONs, yet they still get votes. I just don't get that part.
