Reeves nails it!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the things that has perplexed me from the beginning (Genesis) of my religious upbringing. God, supposedly omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, starts out creating a man and a woman. The woman sins, then the man sins, then they have two sons, born in pain who grow up and Cain kills Abel, which is another sin. Now in my estimation, that success rate is 1 out of 4, not a very admirable percentage. And even Abel was born into sin, so therefore a sinner, too. Seems to me a god who is all powerful would have said, "Wow, I really screwed that up" and started over again, possibly with another species. But no, he propagates the earth with more sinners and evil, so you choose a few of your good people, put them on a boat and kill all the world's population with a gigantic flood, and start over one more time. And so on, and so on, and so on. Kill, kill, kill: the first born, the Philistines, the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah, the enemies of Moses and the Jews. Seems to me a god who is all knowing would have said, "Wow, I just can't seem to get this people thing right. Maybe I should let them do their own thing without any influence from me, without any written instructions, and see what happens. Surely can't be any worse than what I've fucked up!" This is all too, too perplexing. Amen
ReplyDeleteMilleson - Yeah, one screw-up after another.
