No.3 This is what is going on in USA for the younger generations haven't that back burner ideas of the WWII when after it, the government of Washington was demonizing all what was «communism» and diverted it and mistaken it for «socialism».
ReplyDeleteIn Canada, and mostly in my province of Quebec, all the «socialist» advances like universal health care, public free schools for all, college and university affordable tuition etc were put in place in the 60's, 70's and 80's by our baby boomer politicians.
Our millennials are getting all those advantages and some don't even know how it was put in place by their «oldies».
It's when they compare to USA and other countries that they see how lucky they are to live in Canada.
Nathan H. Rubin isn't quite correct. Russia is communistic, not socialistic.
ReplyDeleteBut, still.... We've had socialistic programs in the US since the 30s. Yes, the Republicans have railed against each and every program along the way. The rich care about one thig: Getting more.
JiEL - If only we had followed Canada's example.
ReplyDeletewhkattk - Yes, Nathan didn't get it quite right. Perhaps he's too young to know the difference.
Rad - Abso-fucking-lutely!
LOVE that last one. And interesting point of view re: Millennials. I hope that's true. I hope the tide turns. I hope it turns soon. In fact, I would welcome a tsunami.
ReplyDeleteuptonking - Me too.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Nathan Rubin just started with what the GOP's dinausors are thinking and selling in their propaganda as an pretext to block any bill that is meant to socially benefit to the whole people.
ReplyDeleteIn these guys minds anything that might cost them, even a bit, is to be seen as socialism/communism/Trotskyism etc
I am afraid that, if our governments fail to keep these tycoons on leash, then one day the corporations will one day take over, as scripted in many books and movies since George Orwell.
All the more reasons to tax them now while it's still possible.
And I echo the last post from Mistress Maddie's blog: Tax the f*cking Churches too!
BatRedneck - You made an excellent distinction about their thinking. I'm afraid the world is headed for a big upheaval of some kind. Yes, tax the churches, too.
