Sweet.

  1. I've never tried to use the HTML format. Once in a while the new post will open to that. I've always switched before doing the post. I'm a coward! LOL

  2. whkattk - It's not too difficult when you get used to it.

  3. No.1 We don't have such religious crazy judges here in Canada and Gay Rights to marry are in our national and provincial law. We call it more «civil union» getting any religious allusion off chart. We have some Christian priests that would do same sex marriage anyways as here a priest is also a civil representant and can register any marriages on the civil registery.

No.4 Well be it and spread COVID all over your stupid congregation. In French we say that : fear is the mother of wisdom so... Remain stupid and don't come to an hospital to take a ICU bed frome those who are real believers in science. Remain praying in your church so you God could heal you.

  4. JiEL - I absolutely agree with you about No.4.

  5. Same as in Canada here. Civil weddings are performed by the town mayor - or their 1st deputy - and they stick to the law, without any religious matter interfering. But again, our Republic takes very seriously the separation of State from church(es) and you will never see a Bible in a court of law unless it's the murder weapon :-p

  6. The quran, the bible... they are both terrible fiction used to terrorize people.

Huh... that sign at the church. I wonder how that worked out for them? Dicks.

Lucretius throws down hard! Spot on. Why isn't there a church devoted to his teachings?

Love both the points about religious zealots trying to lead and set policy. Religion should automatically disqualify you from running for office because it is a conflict of interest - separation of church and state!

  7. BatRedneck - You made me chuckle.

    uptonking - Yeah, religion sucks.

  8. Oh but Lucretius teachings are available to people who make it up to 12th grade in philosophy courses (here), assuming they opt-in for these. But that's not enough and happens really late.

Which brings me back to the idea that philosophy should be integrated way earlier into scholarship through learnings of how to think by oneself, the search for accurate informations when needed (measurable, verifiable,...) and their cross-referencing. Kids understand that very well, and it would benefit them in any class they attend. Not to mention that in this Internet world they grow-up in it seems necessary to the least if not mandatory.

But here's what it has to begin with, obviously: one primarily mission of the state should be to provide access to the people, free of tuition, to school, college AND university, provided that no religious belief would be shown nor used in any way within their walls.
That'd be the strict yet simple and clear enough application of the law of separation of church from state.
Allowing religious beliefs to interfere with civil education always leads at best to people neglecting the basics such as common sense, and at worse to raising antivaxers, flat-earth promoters, and of course greedy pastors and politicians.

And this is no 'socialist thinking'. Just me being concerned by a world that goes to the verge of collapsing by the day, a situation that hardly stands a chance to get better as long as people are born and raised without access to actual education, starting with non-tampered History...

(Ouch, I think I just let myself go here. Sorry guys :)

  9. BatRedneck - Let yourself go! I thoroughly enjoyed your comment and you are exactly right. Would you be interested in the position of Benevolent Dictator of the World? (I've always wanted that job but deep down knew I'd suck at it.)

  10. "Benevolent Dictator"? This must be the best quasi-oxymoron I have ever heard :-))

Yet thanks but no thanks. Not only because I'd rather not end up stabbed in the back like Caesar - very drama queen, still too bloody to my taste - also because I strongly believe that too much power in the hands of one person eventually removes them from actual people's live reality, turns dignity into pride that becomes oversized Ego. Yuck.

I'd rather see a consulate system - wider than a short triumvirate - where individual influence and power would be kept muzzled by the others but, as much as we know of humans there would still be interests alliances, intrigues, shitty lobbies and the like...

The good news is Mother Nature is currently doing a pretty good job at spreading what may be the game changer, and all the morons walking this planet are freely helping her for a change... (sorry, I don't know of a 'sad smile' emoji)

  11. BatRedneck - A consulate system would be good, but we know humans would manage to F that up eventually. In the meantime, Mother Nature is doing what she can.
