Have you seen the Iceberg being interviewed on the news segment of last week's SNL? It is a scream. Bowen Yang played the Iceberg. Priceless.
ReplyDeleteAnd let us hope that the Titanic II, doesn't meet the same fate in 2022. That name could be cursed after all. And I hear the ocean liner is almost a complete replica.....
ReplyDeleteuptonking - I found that segment on YouTube and thought it was hilarious, thanks.
ReplyDeleteMistress Maddie - I had to look that up and have to wonder why are they doing that?
As I saw on recent TV documentaries, it was doomed even when leaving the docks.
ReplyDeleteSeems that there was a fire burning in the front charcoal cargo.
Most of all this is the price the captain and the company had to pay for their arrogance. Speed was put first over the human life on board.
It was a real tragedy that could have been avoided IF the radio man would acknowledge the warnings of other boats in the neighborhood.
JiEL - I remember reading about that fire. Too many things came together to cause the tragedy. Human arrogance being the biggest.

ReplyDeleteJiEL - Thanks for the link!
ReplyDeleteThe Titanic Disaster was a little different for me. My Mother's Father was a highly sought after accountant, and many of his oldest clients died on the ship. That also greatly affected the "Social Scene" my Grandmother was used to. She reflected to me how parties were just not the same with so many of her friends being wiped out like that. It caused quite the "adjustment" for years after. It greatly impacted philanthropic giving for years as well.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I too, thought the SNL bit was Hysterical! Well done.
fred - Wow, you have a personal connection to the tragedy! Very interesting. Thank you for sharing this.
ReplyDeletePartially because my parents were much older than most when my brother and I were born, and my Grandparents were living right where so many of the victims lived. I do remember my Grandmother would get this far away look in her eyes when ever the disaster was discussed. She and Grandpa really felt this loss, and my Mom on some levels. Certainly an interesting time.
ReplyDeletefred - I'm sure it was awful for everyone connected to the tragedy. So recent a memory for them.
