I have to ask: When building on a rock like this, where are the utilities?

If I lived in that little house, I'd be pissed.

  1. On the "rock", since there are trees, there must be dirt. It wouldn't be too hard to run electrical wiring and a water pipe under a hundred-foot-wide channel of water. Poo could be used as fertilizer for the trees or mailed anonymously to political campaigns. They might have satellite-based internet. All they need is a few mines or sharks to fend off Jehovah's Witnesses and it could be a pretty cozy place.

  2. Usually when new construction happens in an established neighborhood, property values go up, but in this case I would think they might go down as this cubistic shipping container fiasco is ill-suited to the surroundings. I'd be pissed too!

    1. Hopefully the "wood house" is shielded from hail and such by the container-based structure! Then coaxing the insurance company to recognize that with reduced rates! Then coax the taxing authorities to similarly decrease the taxable property value due to "the neighbors".

  3. On the Utilities Question. I have friends in Canada that own similar properties, and, if there is electric service nearby, they can use cable underwater to service the home. (At your expense, naturally.) Some of my friend's neighbors have generators and there is a Tide Powered Generator for those that have a significant change in water levels!!
