If you're not reading Jeff Tiedrich on a daily basis, you're not getting the full picture of what is happening to us at this time in American history. His use of clever and colorful vocabulary will have you chuckling through this mess a little easier, although he still writes about the seriousness of it all. Recommended reading at this house.
I agree on Jeff's daily comments. I signed-up for his newsletter several months ago, when I discovered it. His language is not necessarily "safe for work", can get a bit complicated at times, but is still pretty accurate on the gravity of it all. Sometimes I wonder where he comes up with all of the descriptive nick-names he comes up with, but they are more accurate than not. It is not everybody's "can of soft drink", but is more accurate than many would like.
My father was an Eisenhower Republican; served under him in WWII. Ike built our Interstate system and taxed the wealthy. Those days are long dead and other than the random road-side marker, long forgotten.
My pessimism is getting... quite bad. Contrary to what other bloggers insist; I honestly do believe we will not have another "Fair and free" election in this country until well after Trump drops dead.
The whole deal with the broadcasters started over 20 years ago, as smaller broadcast "networks" (owned and run by religious-oriented individuals) sought to purchase small-town radio stations in rural parts of the country. Nobody really challenged that back then, but some saw what was going on and sought to stop their buy-outs of radio and print media. One the sales were completed, THEY could then "groom" the citizens of those areas in THEIR orientations and later actions. THEY controlled what these people read and listend to on "the news", as a result.
Then came the "normal" buy-outs and consolidations into basically a handfull of corporate entities. Entities whose complete future can be controlled by the FCC and its department head. No wonder the "legacy media" is acting like it is!
In has been "revealing" to watch how "touchy" many in our society have become as a result of Mr. Kirk's death. UP FRONT, every "radical leftish" commentator in the media said his killing was NOT NEEDED, they expressed condolences to his family, and were generally saddened by it all. A few days later, when they might make a pretty mild comment about his beliefs and orientations, they were fired for ANY comment which might tarnish is legacy. Disagreements CAN happen, but they should NOT result in the death of the involved individuals. BUT gun violence seems to be the "method of choice" for retribution, in so many cases these days.
As the manner in which the investigation and arrest of an alleged shooter have FURTHER shone a light on what Jeff terms (paraphrasing) the current "Clowncar Cabinet" that is now our "government". The BAD thing is that people growing up in these times will perceive what's going on as "normal", when those of use from prior generations KNOW it is anything but normal! The ultimate "grooming" to get future generations "to comply"?
Eisenhower got us the legislation to create the Interstate Highway System (for effective troop and military machinery movements from coast to coast). Nixon signed the original "Clean Air Act", with special deference to California to enact stricter standards for their special conditions (also setting time-lines for compliance with advancing more stringent standards as time progressed).
One resulted in major transportation improvements as the other sought to maintain and increase "quality of life" enhancements with a growing population. Can't have a great life if you can't breathe easily and drink known-clean water! Other federal agencies were built to make for safer workplaces and many consumer protections. Many areas where "bad actors" were known to be operating could come under federal over-sight and regulations, to the dismay of many who had been raking in massive profits from such. BUT these regulations made for a better place to live and do business as a result.
We can see the legacy of 2016-2020 and 2024+ in the making in real time. With 2026+ being a pivotal time WE CAN have an influence upon.
Not with conspiracy nut and election denier Heather Honey as deputy assistant secretary for election integrity at DHS/ Homeland Security. With her at that position and others of her ilk at DHS, we won’t have fair elections. A fait accompli for the fascists behind project 2025. -Rj
